Find out all the latest news on our continued work as a Marmot Place
Where people are born, live, grow, work and get older has the biggest influence on health and health inequalities.
We've partnered with the UCL Institute of Health Equity to become a Marmot Place.
At the heart of this work are the charity and voluntary organisations across the county that work tirelessly in our communities, making a real difference in helping tackle inequalities. As a partnership, by prioritising the Marmot recommendations, we will ensure that our efforts to tackle health inequalities are informed by robust evidence and best practice, with resources directed where they are needed most.
The importance of equity
Professor Sir Michael Marmot emphasises the importance of health equity as a moral imperative. He argues that health inequalities are unjust and should be addressed to create a fairer and healthier society. In Oxfordshire, Marmot's work has been influential in driving improvements to health outcomes for all.
Investment in equity and prevention
The Institute of Health Equity emphasise that investment in equity and prevention is essential. With health inequalities widening, Jessica highlights the need to keep prevention at the forefront so communities, especially those most affected, get the sustained support they need.
The best start in life
How communities come together to support families to give their child the best possible start in life is demonstrated across Oxfordshire. Not least at Flo's in the Park, Oxford who work alongside health partners to support with the issues that underpin the social determinants of health - such as housing.
